Looking Back: 5 Things To Keep In Mind For Your Year at Newhouse

As this year's crop of master's students wraps up, they take a look back at the year they spent in Newhouse and Up on the Hill. Here are five takeaways from their experiences; keep them in mind as you begin your degree program this summer!

1. Go to as many sporting events as possible. Even if you aren't a fan, it's incredible to see how many people wear orange and cheer on the talented athletes at the Carrier Dome. It's an incredible community to be part of!

2. Meet as many individuals from other programs at Newhouse as possible. Our paths will all cross one day, and you'll want to be able to network ! But beyond that, everyone is very talented, creative, and driven, and you'll only learn from others.

3. Pay attention to what the GSO (graduate student organization) offers. From free dinners to picnics to happy hours, the GSO plans lots of great events for graduate students, and it's a great way to meet people outside of Newhouse.

4. Network with your professors. They are here to help you! But you're also an adult–they won't come to you. Make an effort and work hard; they will notice it.

5. Bootcamp isn't so bad. We promise! In fact, we're willing to bet you'll be wishing it were bootcamp about 3 weeks into the fall semester—and not just because it was summertime!
