The Beginning of Boot Camp

The Beginning of Boot Camp

Orientation day is finally here at Newhouse and we are excited! I’m sure incoming students are feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation for what the next six weeks will bring. Let me assure you that although “Boot Camp” may sound and look intimidating on paper, you will enjoy every second of it. It is the perfect time to grow close with other Newhouse graduate students, especially those outside of your program.  We have eleven professional degree programs as well as an academic and executive education program (details here). Boot Camp is the only time that graduate students essentially have Newhouse to themselves, so take advantage of it! Be professional but have fun, remember these people may become future coworkers and offer wonderful career networking opportunities in the future. Many with also become your close friends, one year is not a long time and you want to embrace every minute.

Get involved during those six weeks! Newhouse has put together a variety of awesome events during Boot Camp, including an ice cream social and happy hour at Faegan’s, who would want to miss those? Check out below for a complete list!

July 6: Welcome BBQ at the Associate Dean Joel Kaplan’s home
July 11: Trivia Night
July 18: Friday Night Flick on the Quad, Divergent
July 29: Baseball Night, Syracuse Chiefs vs. Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs
August 1: Happy Hour at Faegan’s Pub

Any questions about these events? Or questions about Boot Camp in general? Please comment and we will do our best to help with any questions or concerns.  We look forward to meeting the new students today!
