Kick Off the School Year with the NYS Fair

The gates for the New York State Fair officially open tomorrow. In my opinion, the fair offers a great cure to the “back to school blues” that many students experience as the summer comes to a close. The vast amount of activities, music and food ensures that anyone can find something they will love.

The concerts offered are one of the most spectacular aspects of the fair. This year the Grandstand (tickets required) features artists such as Brad Paisley, Pitbull, Train, Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean. If the concerts could get even better, the Chevy Court offers FREE concerts featuring artists such as Kellie Pickler, the Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth, Jason Derulo, Sean Kingston and many more.

Music is not the only thing to check out at the fair, Special Fair Days offer great deals for a variety of reasons. Be sure to check out this link for the complete list.

Another aspect of the fair is the agricultural events and exhibits. Be sure to visit one of the many livestock shows, the dairy cow birthing center, Taste of NY wine and cheese seminars, or Dairy Day (a milkshake contest and cheese auction at the Chevy Court Pavilion!).

Various other exhibits include the agricultural museums, antique tractor display, arts and crafts, butter and cheese sculptures (they are always amazing!) horticulture, the Iroquois Indian Village, the Monarch Butterfly Garden,  New York Maple Center, Potato Booth, rollercoaster rides, and much, much more!

Lastly, the best part of the fair to many may be the crazy kinds of food offered. Beginning with a donut hot dog dipped in maple syrup and continuing on to fried macaroni, a sausage sandwich or homemade ice cream, you definitely want to visit the fair with an appetite!
