Jumpstart your Time at Syracuse: A Guide to Student Organizations

As graduate students you will most likely be at Syracuse University for 1-2 years, a relatively short amount of time considering all that you will accomplish. Therefore, it is important not to waste any time, and simply jump right into all the wonderful opportunities SU has to offer. With over 300 student organizations on campus, these activities are a fun way to meet great people while learning and building new skills. Below is a list of some organizations that may be particularly appealing to Newhouse grad students, but feel free to check out this website for a complete list of all the organizations offered.

The Daily Orange: Syracuse University's daily newspaper where students can gain experience in journalism.

WAER: A Public Radio station that offers opportunities for students to be part of the newsroom team covering stories relevant to Central New York. Additionally, students can work on the sports staff to gain broadcasting and production experience

WJPZ: The only student-run radio station at Syracuse University, and a great way to network!

Orange TV Network: The first college cable TV station in the country to go high-def, it can be watched 24/7 during the school year.

Citrus TV: This is a completely student-run television studio which provides content for Time Warner Cable Sports 13 as well as the Orange Television Network and other online platforms.

The last organization I want to mention is in its own category; The GSO (Graduate Student Organization). Offering Travel and Research Grant funding, as well as both social and educational events throughout the year, I encourage everyone to become involved with the GSO!

All of the above offer numerous ways to gain experience in a variety of different roles. Find any organization on social media to stay updated on ways to get involved, or visit their individual websites for more information! You won’t regret it!
