New Media Business: Join Us To See the The Future.

The Newhouse School’s New Media Business course is required for New Media Management graduate students. However, the course has practical value to any other graduate or undergraduate student who intends to work in the media industries or to deal with those industries. Its goal is to teach students why and how the world’s media environment is radically changing; how to adapt successfully to these epochal changes; and how to manage profitable media enterprises in the 21st century.

1. Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is the integration of digital information with live video and the user’s environment in real time. When the AR program recognizes the picture or video, it will automatically display the virtual result of the user’s demand. Google Glass is one of the most representative example of augmented reality. Theoretically, with Google Glass, you are able to view social media applications as well as navigate with GPS and take photos.

Augmented reality also could be applied to create digital objects that appear to the exist in the real world. Google is planning to fund an augmented reality firm, Magic Leap . Like a pair of glasses, users can enjoy the things in their mind in the real world.

2. Flexible Screen

You already rely on your PC, tablet or mobile phone to arrange your daily life and collect information. We are currently creating new technology to make this easier, and a flexible screen is one of these new technologies. Screens are our gateway into the virtual world, and we customize them as such.  For example, the mobile phone screen is becoming larger because customers find that a larger screen makes operation more convenient and comfortable.

3. Interactive Print

Tablets and eReaders are now ubiquitous. The difference that a few years makes is phenomenal: newspaper and magazine publishers used to focus more on supplementing traditional media with interactivity, but digital media has made interactivity a must nowadays .
