The 3 E’s of Finals Success

The 3 E’s of Finals Success

As my entire cohort is currently learning, the last two to three weeks of the semester are hands-down the most stressful. As a public relations major, I do not have any final exams, but I do have a huge amount of papers and presentations.

Although it is easy to get caught up in all you have to do and feel overwhelmed, it is important to remember to step back and breathe. Here are a few things that I have been doing during this stressful time period that are helping me to not only relax but be more productive. We shall call them the three E’s!

  1. Eight Hours of Sleep: As much as you may feel you have to stay up all night, you will not perform well when you are exhausted. Although an occasional all-nighter may be a necessity, you should not make it your norm. Getting the necessary amount of sleep, although it may seem counterproductive, will help you produce better work when you are awake.
  2. Exercise: I truly believe that exercising frequently is the key to life. Being active is not only good for your physical and mental health but can also help you focus. Exercising for 30 minutes every morning helps me have more focused and productive days.
  3. Enjoy: Winter break is coming! This means there are a lot of fun holiday events going on in the area. I know that in the next couple of weeks I will be going to both a wreath-making workshop and a Syracuse community production of “A Christmas Story.” It’s important, no matter how busy you are, to take breaks and enjoy life.

In conclusion, yes, it is a stressful time. But with hard work, powered by sleep, exercise and fun, you can get through it.

So, to my fellow cohort: Good luck, I have faith in you!

And to Newhouse students of the future: If you end up at this prestigious school then I know you can handle the work load! Having these tips now may even help you when it is your turn to be in our place!
