Looking in Both Directions
After all of the stress and worry, things are finally falling into place. I am so proud of my fellow master’s students for having finished this challenging and incredibly rewarding year. It was a tough road going, but we did it.
I am also especially proud of my public relations cohort, with my colleagues now moving into internships and jobs as we seek to complete our PRL 635 practicum requirement. Many of these colleagues and friends will soon be working for truly impressive employers including the W2O group, Coca-Cola and various Syracuse University offices.
I myself am very excited to be starting my career at Chobani this summer as a public relations intern. Having grown up next to the first facility, it is an organization that I can relate to on a personal level, and I am proud to now be a part of the the company’s story.
Undoubtedly, I will be sad when this program comes to a close. But in the mean time, these are the things I am looking forward to:
- Graduation Even though graduation happens before we are officially finished with our program, it will be fun to celebrate our accomplishments thus far and share our school lives with our families.
- Multimedia Storytelling A Maymester course that some of us are required to take, I am truly looking forward to this class. Currently, I have limited experience in creating and editing videos and am excited to learn a new skill.
- Beginning my career I especially look forward to beginning my internship at the end of the month and gaining some valuable corporate communications experience. If nothing else, all of the hard work this year was worth being able to obtain this position.
It’s surreal to think that less than a year ago I was just beginning my time at Newhouse. I remember arriving for orientation, looking forward and feeling anxious as I considered the road ahead. Now I am looking in the opposite direction, feeling grateful for the experiences I have had at this school and all of the fantastic (and highly talented) people I have had the chance to meet.
Good luck class of 2016! I know you will all be successful as you enter the communications industry and become official members of the Newhouse “mafia!”
