Coffee On Campus: Where Should You Go?

Coffee On Campus: Where Should You Go?

What’s the most important drink for graduate students? Water might be the right answer, but coffee is definitely the best answer. There are plenty of places to get your caffeine fix on campus, but when should you skip the Starbucks line and head over to Marshall Street for some Dunkin’ Donuts? It depends on how much time you have, what you’re in the mood for, and how far you are willing to walk.

To figure this out, let’s line up the players:

  1. Food.ComFood.com is the obvious choice for in-between classes. If you’re in a rush it’s easily the most convenient. It’s affordable and you can use a student meal plan. Plus if you’ve got the mug club, then it’s free on Fridays. Also every five cups you can get a free one. However, if you’re the kind of person that has an incredibly specific and complicated coffee order, you might want to go somewhere else. There are a variety of flavors and milks, which is a plus, but you can’t get a Frappacino.
  2. Dunkin’ Donuts in SchineDunkin’ Donuts in Schine – This is good because you can get Dunkin’ Donuts items on your meal plan. That being said, you can’t use any Dunkin’ rewards here, so that might be a downside to the #dedicated customer. But you can still get a donut with your coffee, and if it’s raining on your way to class it’s a nice, dry shortcut.
  3. Cafe KubalCafe Kubal is kind of a walk, but if you have extra time you can get some shopping in as well. They have nicely-priced Syracuse merchandise, so while you sip your artisanal latte you can pick up something to wear for the next game. Plus, a character from Game of Thrones was spotted in one of the Cafe Kubal chains, so you can basically sit in the same franchise that HBO royalty sat in.
  4. Marshall Street Dunkin’ DonutsThe Dunkin’ Donuts on Marshall Street is really close so that is definitely a plus. You can use your Dunkin’ Donuts rewards, plus you get a free donut if you actually take the time to fill out the survey.
  5. StarbucksStarbucks is the biggest player in this. The Seattle based giant has somewhat of a cult following. The unicorn Frappacino shook the internet with it’s mind boggling sugar levels and neon colors. Starbucks has the pumpkin spice flavors that so many crave during this fall season. So if that is what you’re looking for, you might want to brave the lines. The lines are bad, but if you mobile order you can somewhat skip them.
  6. Campus West StarbucksIf you’re in Newhouse and don’t live in Campus West, there really is no reason to go here. It’s a fully functioning Starbucks, but you can’t use your rewards. The walk is far, the reward is somewhat minimal.

Hopefully with this information, you’ll be better informed on where to get your cup of joe. Just make sure you don’t spend so much time deciding on your order that you’re late to class.
