New Media Management: Boot Camp and Capstone 2013
BOOT CAMP
New Media Management students spend the bootcamp semester in an intensive reading seminar that explore the disruptions taking place across the communications industries. Student read and discussed works such as Dr. Carlota Perez's treatise on the dynamics of economic bubbles and technological revolutions, and Dr. Duncan Watts' explanation of the mathematics of networks and the Kevin Bacon effect. In all, students read and discuss a book a week as they explore the large scale forces–economic, technological and regulatory—that are changing the business of communications.
CAPSTONE
NMM grad students spent the 6-week capstone semester analyzing potential new revenue sources for small community newspapers. This involved maximizing the profit potential for existing assets, exploring new products for discerned audiences in the operating area, and designing new management structures to facilitate a full transition of digital content management.
