Summertime in Syracuse – 25 summer activities
I love the summertime. I especially love the summertime after a long Syracuse winter. Summer makes me want to do everything outside: eat, sleep, drink, exercise, play…eat. So when I moved from a huge city like Chicago to Syracuse, I was a little stumped as to what to do with my free time over the summer. I went to the mall, and though Destiny is huge, it is still just a mall.
So I decided to explore, at the time I lived on Westcott street and there were always flyers and tons of information about activities. Mostly what ended up happening was I did a lot of driving and a ton of random site seeing, and concluded that there’s a ton to do during the summer both in and outside of Syracuse.
Instead of boring you with the vagueness of my summer activities last year, here’s a concrete list for 20 fun things to do in Syracuse during the summer!
1. Museum of Science and Technology (“the MOST”)
Ok, enough with the museums.
5. The State Fair (This one is a must attend…food…sweets…rides…and fried Oreos August 27 – Sept. 7)
6. Onondaga Lake Park – you can rent a bike for seven people…SEVEN!
7. Turning Stone Casino & Resort
8. Tinker Falls – NY has a ton of waterfalls in general…coming from a city where you can see down one street for miles anything in nature with natural height is fascinating to me.
9. Southwick Beach – Not technically in Syracuse but the closest beach I’m pretty sure.
10. Cazenovia – The cutest little village I’ve ever been to, and their library has a mummy!
13. The Farmers Market – Emphasis on Market (they sell clothes and lots of other stuff) right by Destiny Mall and delicious!
14. Mexico Point State Park – Basically the forest (not really there are trails), because it isn’t even listed on the cny parks website.
15. Seneca Falls – Birthplace of the women’s rights movement!
16. Harriet Tubman’s House in Auburn – Yes, the Harriet Tubman
17. Wine Tours
18. The Renaissance Festival – Saturdays and Sundays now through August 17
20. Visit Niagara Falls – Ok, so this clearly isn’t in Syracuse, but guess what it’s summertime and its close (about 2 and a half hours away)
